Alex De Minaur to make return at 2024 US Open following withdrawal at Wimbledon

Australian tennis star Alex De Minaur announced he will be making his return to the ATP Tour at the 2024 US Open, after being sidelined by a brief injury spell.

The 25-year old was forced to withdraw from his quarterfinal matchup against Novak Djokovic at the Wimbledon Championships earlier this summer due to a hip injury. Prior to SW19, De Minaur had also made a successful run at Roland Garros, reaching the quarterfinals of the clay court event.

The Sydney native has enjoyed a standout year, featuring quarterfinal appearances at Monte Carlo, Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Additionally, he won the s-Hertogenbosch title, all of which saw him reach a career-high ranking of World No.6 in July.

Although De Minaur opted not to compete in the singles event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games as he recovered from his Wimbledon setback, the Australian did compete alongside recent Canadian Open champion Alexei Popyrin in the men's doubles event. However, the duo fell in the opening round, and De Minaur chose to skip the ATP Masters events in Montreal and Cincinnati leading up to Flushing Meadows.

Nonetheless, De Minaur appears to be fully healed from his hip injury and took to Twitter to announce he will be competing at the US Open this year, much to the delight of his fans.

"I’m coming back!! US open see you soon 🤞🙏👀😈⏱️," wrote De Minaur on Twitter.
