Daniil
Medvedev on the amount of money it would take for him to consider retiring. The
28-year-old has been one of the most consistent players on the Tour since 2019,
finishing in the top-7 for the past six consecutive years.
He is also
one of the few to have won a Grand Slam title while the Big 3 were still
active, back in the 2021 US Open, and reached his career-high ranking in 2022
as world No. 1.
"Let’s just say that I love money" - Daniil Medvedev
The Russian
recently responded with the amount of money that would make him consider
retiring at this stage of his career, considering that he finished the year as
world No. 4 and still seems like a strong contender for major titles next
season.
The world
No. 5 Russian earned $5.5 million this season and a total of $44 million
throughout his career, being one of the highest earners of his generation.
Medvedev recently commented that for him to think about retirement, the sum
would have to be enormous. "I think this sum doesn’t exist or it’s very
big. I'd say a billion," he said.
"For
that amount, I would probably think about it. Let’s just say that I love money.
Tennis sometimes gets on my nerves, but that's also why I love it. It’s hard to
live without competition, so I try, I play, I win," Medvedev said in an
interview with BetBoom's YouTube channel.
Medvedev
comes from a 'irregular' season, at least by his own standards, as for the
first time since 2017 he did not win any title. His best results include
reaching the finals of the
Australian Open and
Indian Wells, or semifinals at
Wimbledon and the
Miami Open.
