Known for his outlandish antics on the court and controversial takes off it, Nick Kyrgios has been slammed by former World No.3 Nikolay Davydenko over the Aussie's response to the latest doping scandal involving his colleagues.
Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek both tested positive for prohibited substances, the Italian failing his doping test earlier this year while Swiatek's violations were revealed in November. While Sinner avoided a suspension. Swiatek was handed a one-month ban that ended on December 4, 2024.
Upon learning of the news regarding the doping violations, Kyrgios spoke out against the perceived leniency handed to Sinner and Swiatek. The former World No.13 took several shots at his colleagues on social media, prompting Davydenko to voice his opinion on Kyrgios' antics.
"Nick always talks, he's a showman," said the retired Russian star in an interview with Championat. "He talks nonsense on and off the court and will continue to do so. We'll hear him more than once."
This is not the first time Davydenko has expressed his frustration with Kyrgios. Two months ago, Davydenko ripped into Kyrgios during a conversation with former doubles No.1 Elena Vesnina via BetBoom Tennis.
"He is generally overrated," said Davydenko. "When it was time to play, he was always injured. In short, let’s forget about him."
"Clown, I agree," added Vesnina. "But he was incredibly talented and gifted. He had a powerful serve and a superb forehand. But when it came to winning a major title, all that went up in smoke."
