World number two Germany’s
Alexander Zverev and America’s
Ben Shelton have confirmed their participation in this year’s
Laver Cup. The
2025 edition of the competition will be played from September 19-21 in San
Fransico where top players will represent two teams to claim the ultimate
prize.
Two more big-name players have now confirmed their
participation in the competition’s 2025 edition. One of them is going to be Germany’s Zverev, who will represent Team Europe. The reigning world number two
already started the year on a high as he finished as the runner-up in the first
Grand Slam of the year — the Australian Open — after losing to reigning world
number one Jannik Sinner in the final.
Zverev has been recently quoted in the official press release
where he stated that he loves being part of the competition. “I love being part
of the Laver Cup, being teammates with some of the greatest players in the
world is very special,” he said. “I’m also really looking forward to San
Francisco this year. It is super exciting to be playing at the home of the
Golden State Warriors, it will be so cool to play in their arena and experience
the atmosphere.”
Another player who is going to be a part of the competition
will be America’s Shelton, who will be a part of the Team World. The
22-year-old, who is already regarded as one of the most talented players currently
playing in men’s tennis in the singles category, also started the year strongly
when he lost to Sinner in the semifinal in straight sets with a score of 7-6,
6-2, 6-2. Shelton has also been quoted in the official press release, where he expressed excitement about taking part in the competition.
“Nothing compares to
Laver Cup,” he said. “It’s electric. The team format, the excitement, the fans
– it’s next level. I’m really excited to be playing my third Laver Cup and
first in front of an American crowd, I think it’ll be a pretty cool atmosphere
in San Francisco and we are pumped and super motivated to win back the Laver
Cup!”
