Miami Open champion Jakub Mensik joins elite list of youngest ATP Masters 1000 champions featuring Rafael Nadal

Rising Czech star Jakub Mensik shocked the tennis community on Sunday, where he defeated former World No.1 Novak Djokovic in an exhilarating final to lift the Miami Open title.

The 19-year old played some of the best tennis of his career to stun the former champion, recording a 7-6(4) 7-6(4) victory. By virtue of this victory, Mensik joined a list of stellar players who won their maiden ATP Masters 1000 at a very young age.

Mensik now featured alongside tennis royalty

The Prostejov native's victory saw him climb to a career-high ranking of World No.24. Furthermore, his title run in Miami enabled him to join the list of youngest players to ever win an ATP Masters 1000 title. At just 19 years and 210 years old, Mensik comes in as the fifth youngest player to lift a prestigious Masters title.

Coming at at No.4 is Danish star Holger Rune, who was 19 years and 181 days old when he won his first ATP Masters title at 2022 Paris Masters. En route to the title, Rune defeated Carlos Alcaraz, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Novak Djokovic.

Former World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz sits at the third spot, having won his maiden Masters title at the 2022 Miami Open at just 18 years and 334 days old. The Spaniard also won the 2022 Madrid Open, his second Masters 1000 title, three days after turning 19.

Legendary Spaniard Rafael Nadal won his maiden Masters 1000 title at 18 years and 318 days old, putting him second on the list. The 22-time Grand Slam champion won his first of 11 Monte Carlo trophies in 2005. Additionally, he also won his second Masters title, the 2005 Italian Open, before his 19th birthday.

Holding the top position is American Michael Chang, who won his maiden Masters 1000 title at 18 years and 158 days old. Seeded seventh at the 1990 Canadian Open, Chang defeated compatriot Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras and Jay Berger during his run to the title in Toronto.
