Stefanos Tsitsipas and brother petros withdraw from Australian Open doubles. The Tsitsipas brothers earned direct entry into the doubles draw, securing the 32nd spot based on their combined ranking at the close of the 2024 season.

The Greek duo has competed in nine Grand Slam doubles main draws and several Masters 1000 tournaments, particularly during the clay swing. Their best result as a pair came when they reached the quarterfinals of the 2024 French Open, defeating fourth seeds Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek along the way.

Unexpected withdrawal: Tsitsipas brothers exit AO doubles

Their absence from the Australian Open doubles draw stood out, as the brothers withdrew shortly before the tournament began. So far, neither has released an official statement regarding the reason for their withdrawal.

Stefanos, who skipped warm-up tournaments ahead of the Australian Open, will play his first match of the season in the tournament’s opening round. The 11th seed is set to face American Alex Michelsen (No. 41), who defeated him in their only previous encounter at the Tokyo Open 2024, coming from a set down in the first round.

Despite this setback, the 26-year-old has a solid record in Melbourne, having reached the 2023 final (losing to Novak Djokovic) and three other semifinals (2019, 2021, 2022). “I worked very hard [in the offseason] to get ready for Australia,” said the former world No. 3 upon arriving in Melbourne. “Overall, I’m very happy with the way I committed to the work, and my mentality seemed pretty good. I was in a good place and patient with the work.”

Tsitsipas is currently in a tight race to return to the top 10, trailing Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov by just 25 points. Advancing through a few rounds will be crucial for the Greek to regain his position among the sport’s elite.
