Britain’s young tennis star
Jack Draper has expressed his
desire to work with former world number one
Andy Murray. The 37-year-old, who is
regarded as the greatest British player in the history of men’s tennis in the
singles category, having won three Grand Slam titles, has recently started working
with Serbia’s legendary star
Novak Djokovic as his coach for the 2025 season.
The move was a surprise because the Glasgow-born retired from the sport recently after participating in the Paris Olympics. Djokovic, on his part, decided to hire his former opponent after having a below-par season in 2024, where he failed to win a single Grand Slam. It was the first time in
seven years that he failed to win a major title in a season.
Draper, who is now considered as the best British player and
had a fabulous 2024 season where he played in his first-ever Grand Slam semifinal
in the US Open, has been quoted in a report by English media outlet Daily Express
where he stated that he is open to having Murray as his coach in the future.
“Let’s see what happens down the line,” he said. “Whoever
Andy coaches, whether it is Novak Djokovic or someone of a lesser standard, he
will give so much to what that player has and he will study them and he will
give advice. I have definitely asked him about my game in the past and he has
always been amazing with analysing my play. He has got such a big tennis brain.
Whatever he brings to any team will have a really positive impact. And I think
his personality as well, the way he is, he is fun to be around. Yeah, we will
see what happens down the line in the future. Right now, I am happy with my
current set-up but it is really exciting to see him come back to tennis and
feel like he wants to be part of it.”
