Over 200 votes cast and the winner of the ATP Player of the Year has been set by the readers of TennisUpToDate.com with our poll to conclude the ATP season.
Like the WTA Player of the Year, it was a conclusive winner and the winner was who was expected at the start of the poll. Aryna Sabalenka won that one with 30% of the votes, Jannik Sinner astonishingly given that he had more competition as such for top prize dwarfed the rest. He had nearly 50% of the vote sitting at 48%.
It was a golden season for Italy's leading light as he won eight titles including two Grand Slams sealing the Australian Open and US Open. As well as the ATP Finals and for his country, another Davis Cup Finals. But in reality it was a surprise given that Carlos Alcaraz finished second but in reality a long way clear on 32%.
A long way clear as he won two Grand Slam titles in 2024 at Wimbledon and Roland Garros. But his consistency perhaps for the rest of the season prevented him. He was poor at the back end of 2024 and struggled to make his mark on other surfaces. While Sinner emerged from the year as a threat on all.
Novak Djokovic surprisingly and somewhat not finished third after a poor year by his high standards. His main victory was the Olympic gold medal. He did still reach Grand Slam finals but the 25th title eluded him. Perhaps the rest weren't a surprise either as Jack Draper finished with 4% of the vote.
The Brit has had a career breakout but he finished ahead of the player who went one better than him at the US Open in Taylor Fritz who sits on 2% of the vote. Alexander Zverev as World No.2 also only garnered a minor percentage while no votes were cast for Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud or Stefanos Tsitsipas. Andrey Rublev received 1% of the vote.
