Although the young Norwegian started his match almost two hours earlier than Andrey Rublev, they both finished at the similar time. The 30th-seeded Casper Ruud faced Mackenzie McDonald in the first round, while the Russian youngster took on Jeremy Chardy.

Casper Ruud had a very good start to the match against McDonald. He was leading already 4-1 and had a breakpoint on opponent's service game. However, he lost his lead and lost the first set 4-6. For Andrey Rublev, the story was much shorter and less exhausting. The Russian defeated Jeremy Chardy comfortably in 2 hours and 9 minutes 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. The 10th-seeded Rublev will meet the winner of the match between Daniel and Barrere in the second round.
