Sofia Kenin and Katrina Scott delighted American fans by winning in straight sets and advancing to the 2nd round of the US Open.
One of the first American on the courts today were
Kenin and Scott and they both delivered by beating their opponents in straight sets and reaching the 2nd round of the
US Open. Sofia Kenin faced off against Yanina Wickmayer, a player capable of playing very good and aggressive tennis. She handled her with ease and she won after only 69 minutes of play.
The first set was a demonstrator of things to come as Kenin jumped out to an early lead which lead to a 6-2 1st set victory. The 2nd set went similarly to the 1st one as the result was once again 6-2 for Kenin. The keys for Kenin's easy victory was her good winning percentage on her own serve which peaked at 70 %. Clutchness in key moments also played a part as she saved all 5 break points she faced.
Another joyfully event for the American fans was he victory of 16-year old Katrina Scott. Her opponent was Vikhlyantseva and the American youngsters had no issues against her. The Russian is not a great player as she rankes outside the top 100 but still this victory was quite a feat for the
US Open debutant. The end result was 7-6(3) and 6-2.
