Tommy Paul is the third confirmed player for the 2025 Laver Cup, set to take place from September 19 to 21 in San Francisco. As in previous years, the tournament will be played on hardcourt. The event, founded by Roger Federer and held since 2017, has Team Europe as its reigning champion.

In seven editions, Team World has only claimed the title twice, in 2022 and 2023. Usually fielding a lower-ranked team, they will aim to reclaim glory after one of the closest battles in a tightly contested 2024 edition—the first without any member of the Big-3.

Paul was initially named to Team World’s roster last year but had to withdraw due to injury (along with Alex de Minaur), with Francisco Cerúndolo and Thanasi Kokkinakis stepping in as replacements. However, the current American No. 2 still competed in two matches in 2023, securing one win and one loss.

Team World will have a new captain this year: former world No. 1 Andre Agassi, who replaced John McEnroe, the captain in all previous editions. Agassi had already named Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton as the first selections, with Americans once again leading Team World.

"It’s a real honor to be back with Team World. Being part of the Laver Cup is an incredible experience," Tommy Paul stated on the official Laver Cup website. "Playing in that atmosphere, alongside guys who are also your best friends, makes you want to perform—not just for yourself, but for them too."

“You want to win more than ever, and that brings out so much energy. I can’t wait to play in San Francisco and compete on home soil. With Agassi, a legend of the sport, as our new captain, it’s going to be amazing,” he added. “I’ve never been on a losing Laver Cup team, so I hope I can help keep that streak going.”
