Roberto Bautista Agut has won 11 career trophies yet the last one on clay before yesterday was ay back in 2014 when Stuttgart was a clay event.
The Spaniard got his 2nd trophy of the year in Kitzbuhel yesterday when he beat native player Filip Misolic in straight sets. The Spaniard was a bit lucky because his opponent had to technically play two matches in a day which certainly impacted his preparation. The first match was only a tiebreak but it was still a whirlwind of emotions for Misolic who entered the event with a wild card.
Speaking after the match, Agut said:
“I enjoyed the final, I think I managed the pressure very well. I knew I was a little bit the favourite today, but he had so many good wins this tournament and I knew it was going to be difficult. I played a very good match.”
Commenting further, Agut noted that it's been a very long time since he won his last clay trophy. It happened in 2014 in Stuttgart which is now a grass event:
“It was a very long time since I won a title on clay. It’s very special for me, because I’ve done a lot of good work on this surface.”
