Former world number one
Boris Becker has decided to remain silent
about the rumours of him linking up with
Alexander Zverev. In the recent past, there have been rumours circulating on social media about the 57-year-old joining the backroom staff of the reigning world number two for the busy season ahead.
Becker has been recently quoted in a report, where he decided to remain silent about the possible collaboration with Zverev, even though he admitted to having a close relationship with his family. "That's always
between Sascha and me,” he said. “We have a private sphere, and we'll keep it
that way... I'm close friends with the family. We're in close contact.”
Zverev is having a difficult season, especially after the Australian Open, where he finished as the runner-up, but that might turn
around with the recent result as he lifted the Munich Open after beating Ben
Shelton in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-4. It was the
third time the 28-year-old lifted the title in Munich. Talking after the match,
Zverev admitted that it was the ‘best week’ for him in a long time and expressed
optimism that winning the title in Munich will help him regain his lost form
ahead of an important clay-court season.
"It's extremely special," said Zverev who set to
begin his campaign in Madrid on Friday. "I always love winning tournaments
in Germany. It's probably the most special thing that I can do. It's definitely
a great birthday present. I knew I had to play my best tennis, Ben has been
playing extremely well. This was one of the best weeks you can have as a tennis
player. I don't think we need to talk about the last few weeks anymore. I'm
just so happy with the title and with the level that I managed to play
at."
