Australia’s
Alex de Minaur and Britain’s
Katie Boulter have been
a couple for a long time but for the first time, they will feature in a
competition as an engaged couple. The two will feature in the upcoming United
Cup. The team-based competition will begin from December 27 and January 5.
The competition will be played in two different venues,
Perth and Sydney, where some of the top players in the world will participate
to not only secure the ultimate prize but to also prepare for the first Grand
Slam of the year.
Interestingly, De Minaur and Boulter are set to face each other as Australia and Great Britain are placed in Group F, where they are placed alongside Argentina. Both players have been recently quoted in a report
where they talked about what they are expecting in the upcoming competition, too, so soon after officially getting engaged. Boulter was of the opinion that
the contest will be a special one as it will give one of them the ‘bragging
rights’ whereas De Minaur was of the opinion that he is just looking to play ‘good
tennis’.
"I wouldn't say that I was thrilled at the idea of
playing him all over again,” said Boulter. “He's a top 10 player and he knows
how to play tennis so there is one side of it, there is a personal side of it
as well which is difficult but also great for bragging rights. I'm looking
forward to the match of course. I think it's going to be a great atmosphere.
Playing Australia is always going to be fun. It's another opportunity for us,
we're definitely the underdogs so let's put pressure on them."
"I don't know how to explain,” said De Minaur. “It's
almost surreal. Whole year later and here we are again. Obviously almost the
same opponents but yeah it's gonna be interesting once again. Hopefully we can
play some good tennis."
