Navratilova remembered her first encounter with her friend
Chris Evert. The

Navratilova and Chris Evert had one of the most significant rivalries in the
history of the professional circuit and have faced each other the most with 80
matches against each other. Their first match was in 1973 when Evert was
already established, and Navratilova was showing her early skills on the tour.
As part of
the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the creation of the WTA, the
Evert-Navratilova rivalry was honored, and Navratilova reflected on the first
time Evert greeted her.
"When
I first met Chris and when she said hello to me, I was so excited," Navratilova
said in a interview for Tennis Channel.
"In
1973 at Fort Lauderdale, I was walking by and she said, 'Hi,' and I'm like,
wow, Chris knows who I am," she added.
Both former
world No. 1 players won 18 Grand Slam titles, with a head-to-head record of
14-8 in favor of Navratilova. When it comes to Grand Slam finals, Navratilova
also has a positive record with 10 wins and 4 losses.
"With
all due respect, most of the opponents that I plaed, I had a winning record
against. With Martina, it was a different story," Evert sai
