Bianca Andreescu played her 2nd clay match in 2021 at the
Internationaux de Strasbourg and it was once more a very impressive victory. She beat Maryna Zanevska with 6-1, 6-4.
Andreescu missed the
Madrid Open and the Rome Masters after testing positive for coronavirus upon arrival in Spain. The Canadian was left with a choice to go to Paris without playing on clay or play in Strasbourg. Choosing the latter looks like a great choice by Andreescu who continued her dominant play today.
She faced off against Zanevska who is far away skill-wise from Andreescu and it was on full display today. Similar to her previous play Andreescu came out on fire dominating play from the start. The first set was won 6-1 with Andreescu only dropping 8 pts on serve.
The 2nd set was much more competitive and despite losing her serve twice Andreescu was still able to pull the win with 6-4. Considering it was her only 2nd match on clay in over two years it's a good result and Andreescu will hope to keep the momentum going.
She is the number one seed and winning a title on clay before the Grand Slam would boost her confidence heading into it. Her mindset is certainly on winning as many matches as she can.
