Maria Sakkari is through to the 4th round of the
US Open where she will face Bianca Andreescu and after the win over Kvitova she spoke to the media.
Another strong and consistent performance by Maria Sakkari allowed her to book a spot in the 4th round of the US Open. The Greek player played an incredible match controlling her aggression and not allowing to get too much out of rhythm. She kept Kvitova off her rhythm as the Czech player had a plethora of unforced errors.
That proved her undoing especially on a day where Sakkari was serving extremely well. After the match Maria said:
"I think it was a great match. It's always tough to play against Petra, because she hits very hard, probably the hardest on the tour. She's a lefty, so it makes your life even tougher."
Sakkari was indeed well prepared especially on the return where she put the ball back in deep forcing Kvitova to improvise which oftentimes ended with an error from the Czech player. Sakkari admitted she was pleased with both her serving and returning after the match:
"I was prepared that I'm gonna have to hit out of her rockets, but I'm very pleased with the way I served, the way I returned, and my attitude on the court once again."
