Maria Sakkari and Amanda Anisimova had to come back from being down one set in order to secure a victory and spot in the next round of the US Open. Maria Sakkari played against American hope Bernarda Pera and while the American started off good her hopes were crushed soon after. The first was won by Pera quite convincingly 6-2 and it was a warning that Sakkari took seriously.

She started playing much better from that point and slowly but surely overmatched her talented opponent. And she played better so did her confidence grew and it resulted in a 6-3 2nd set victory. Sakkari never looked back and she continued to play great while Pera started fading away. All of that resulted in another quick 6-2 final set victory which cemented Sakkari's spot in the 3rd round.

Another player who had to fight back from being one set down was Amanda Anisimova. She faced off against Scott in an All-American affair and the younger Scott had the better start. Armed with a ton of confidence following her 1st round victory Scott came out with a determination which Anisimova could not handle. Scott took a 3-1 lead which she converted in a 5-3 lead and which point she was serving for the set.

Nerves kicked in and she lost the game to make it 5-4 but quickly composed herself to win the next one and clinch the first set. It would be the last we would see of Scott whose level started fading away midway through the 2nd set. Anisimova still didn't play great but it was enough for the 6-4 2nd set victory.

The last set is when Anisimova played better and took over. She broke her opponent immidietly and continued dominating the set before winning the match with a 6-1 final set victory.
