Eurosport tennis analyst and former pro
Chris Evert is backing
Serena Williams to cause some trouble for Swiatek and Barty at the
Roland Garros.
Serena Williams has not played great tennis on clay in 2021 winning only one of three matches she played. She lost to Nadia Podoroska in Rome and Katerina Siniakova in Parma. Her only win came against a 17-year-old qualifier. Even with the struggles, former French Open winner, Evert is backing her to do some damage in France.
She said:
"Serena Williams, if she gets into the 2nd week, will be dangerous."
Evert also named Barty and Swiatek as her top two candidates saying:
“The big favourites to me are Ash Barty and
Iga Swiatek. Iga has peaked in her form, Ash Barty has won a couple of titles, including one on clay – I’d love to see the two competing against each other in the latter stages of the Grand Slam, maybe even the final."
Besides those two Evert noted the rise of Sabalenka and Gauff as potential dark horses as well.
