World number one
Aryna Sabalenka has highlighted where she is
looking to improve in the 2025 season. The 26-year-old is regarded as one of
the best players in the world currently playing in women’s tennis in the
singles category.
Sabalenka has recently had a brilliant campaign in 2024
where, for the first time, she finished the year as the number one player in the WTA rankings. It was also the first time in her career that she won two out of
four Grand Slams. She first lifted the Australian Open after beating China’s Zheng
Qinwen in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
She later went on to lift the US Open for the first time in
her career after beating America’s Jessica Pegula in the final in straight
sets with a score of 7-5, 7-5. Overall, Sabalenka won four titles. She played
70 matches in 2024, winning 56 and losing just 14. Her last title was the Wuhan
Open where she defeated Qinwen in the final with a score of 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.
Sabalenka has recently been quoted in a report by Nine.com.au
where she talked about areas where she would like to improve next season. The
world number one highlighted that she would like to improve her serve and also
suggested that she wants to get better with her game at the nets as well.
"There are so many things to improve," she said. "I'm
not that good with the game at the net, there are a lot of things to improve in
my touch game … even my serve is not as good as I wanted it to be, so there are
always gaps to improve. I feel fresh and ready to go. I love Australia and I
will always come here hungry and always come here ready and as good as
possible."
