Carlos
Alcaraz will feature in another exhibition match in the US against Frances
Tiafoe, just two days after his appearance at Madison Square Garden. This time,
the 4-time Grand Slam champion has traveled to Charlotte, where the event will
also feature a rematch of the 2017 US Open final between
Sloane Stephens and
Madison Keys.
Two days
earlier, the 21-year-old Spaniard performed in New York alongside local stars
Ben Shelton,
Jessica Pegula, and
Emma Navarro. In the first match, Navarro
secured a thrilling win, 7-6, 7-5, while Alcaraz later defeated Shelton 4-6,
6-2, 7-4.
Tiafoe joins Alcaraz for a star-studded exhibition in Charlotte
However, this is not his only off-season engagement, as the Spaniard
quickly traveled to Charlotte to join other local stars in an exciting
exhibition at the Spectrum Center.
The event
will begin with a women’s match between Stephens and Keys, who met in the 2017
US Open final—the only all-American women’s final since the Williams sisters
clashed in consecutive finals in 2002, with Venus winning one year and Serena
the next.
Following
the women’s match, former World No. 1 Alcaraz will take to the court to face
Tiafoe, arguably the American player who has garnered the most attention in the
past year thanks to strong campaigns in his last three appearances at Flushing
Meadows and his time as a top-10 player.
Once
tonight’s exhibition concludes, Alcaraz will finally begin his vacation. After
a busy season, he will have just a few weeks to rest before starting
preparations for the 2025 season. Given this, Alcaraz is expected to make his
next appearance at the Australian Open in mid-January, as he does not plan to
participate in any lead-up tournaments, unlike many of his peers who will
compete in warm-up events ahead of the first Grand Slam of the year.
The
exhibition will also be broadcast on Tennis Channel, allowing fans worldwide to
enjoy both matches. The event kicks off on December 6 at 7:00 PM local time.
