Aryna Sabalenka takes the top spot in the WTA Race after clinching the Miami Open title, becoming the year’s points leader for the first time this season. Australian Open champion Madison Keys drops to second place, while Mirra Andreeva—who won two WTA 1000 titles in the past month—remains in third.

The WTA Race considers only points earned during the calendar year, starting from the first week of 2025, unlike the WTA Rankings, which account for results from the past 52 weeks. Alexandra Eala and Emma Raducanu both climbed into the top 50 after strong performances in Miami.

Sabalenka rises to WTA Race leader

After nearly two months, there has finally been a change at the top of the WTA Race, with Aryna Sabalenka (3,580 points) taking the No. 1 spot from Madison Keys. The Belarusian secured her second title of the season—adding to her Brisbane International win. The world No. 1 had lost the finals at the Australian Open and Indian Wells but finally ended her losing streak in championship matches.

Madison Keys (3,010 points) now sits in second place with a 19-3 record this season and two titles. However, she only reached the third round in Miami, where she was upset by the surprising Alexandra Eala, who made history at Hard Rock Stadium by defeating two top-five players.

Mirra Andreeva remains in third place after her 13-match winning streak was snapped. She only reached the third round in Miami before falling to Amanda Anisimova—the Qatar Open champion and the first WTA 1000 winner of the season. The Russian teenager has 2,565 points, still a considerable gap behind Sabalenka and Keys, but she remains firmly in third despite not gaining many points in Miami.

Swiatek yet to win a title in 2025 but stays in WTA Race top 5

Iga Swiatek (2,315 points) currently sits “only” in fourth place in the WTA Race—likely an unsatisfactory position for the five-time Grand Slam champion, who has yet to win a title in 2025. The Polish star has made several deep runs this season, reaching three semifinals and two quarterfinals. Despite not making a final, she holds a 21-6 record this year (including the United Cup). In Miami, she lost in the quarterfinals to Eala.

American Jessica Pegula (1,811 points) climbs to No. 5 after finishing as the Miami Open runner-up to Sabalenka. The 31-year-old has been one of the most consistent players this season, boasting a 20-6 record with a title in Austin (ATX Open) and finals appearances in Adelaide and Miami.

Other players staying near the top include Clara Tauson (1,365 points), Elena Rybakina (1,320 points), and Amanda Anisimova (1,266 points). Meanwhile, one of the week’s breakout stars was Alexandra Eala, who gained 390 points (having had only 15 points before Miami) to rise to No. 46 in the WTA Race. Emma Raducanu also had a strong week, reaching her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal and climbing to No. 41 in the Race.
